The awards of the “Salt of the Earth” Film Festival are a symbol of recognition by the contemporary film community. Yet they are more than just a high appraisal of a film, a mark of status for a filmmaker, or a distinction for a motion picture — they are also works of art.
The awards are created by Dmitry Vlasov, a renowned sculptor from the Volga region, and are made of bronze using the artistic casting technique.
The main prize of the festival’s competition program is an original statuette depicting the Archangel Michael. The figure stands on a sphere encircled by a film strip. The Archangel pierces the ancient serpent with a spear, just as documentary filmmakers confront evil through the power of cinema.
Each year, together with public organizations of Samara and the region, the festival presents special awards to films that deserve particular recognition.
